Indian passport holders do not need a visa for Nepal for a short tourist stay of up to No fixed limit for Indian citizens.

Indian citizens do not need a visa for visit Nepal. Under the 1950 India–Nepal Treaty of Peace and Friendship, you can enter visa-free for tourism, with no application, no processing time and no entry fee. There is no fixed limit on how long Indian citizens can stay, and no e-Visa or visa on arrival is needed. Just book your trip and go.

What matters is carrying the right document. If you fly, the Embassy of India in Kathmandu accepts only a valid Indian passport or an original Election Commission voter ID card with photograph. Aadhaar, PAN card, driving licence and a downloaded voter ID are not accepted for air travel. Carry original documents, as photocopies are not valid. Keep some Nepali rupees and ₹100 notes, since Nepal’s rules on larger Indian notes have changed recently. Travel insurance is not mandatory, but it is a good idea, especially for trekking, which needs separate permits such as TIMS. Always check the embassy website before you travel, as rules can change.
