Indians need to apply online for an electronic travel authorisation for Sri Lanka before travelling; processing usually takes 24 hours. Visa on arrival is also available.
Indian passport holders need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to visit Sri Lanka, but it costs nothing for tourists. Since 25 May 2026, Sri Lanka has waived the ETA fee for Indian citizens. The free tourist ETA allows a stay of up to 30 days with double entry. It is free for children under 12 too. Without an approved ETA you can be refused boarding, so donโt skip it just because it is free. Business ETAs and stay extensions still carry a fee.
Applying takes only a few minutes online. Go to the official site, eta.gov.lk, choose the tourist option, and enter your passport and travel details exactly as printed. Add your arrival date and your stay address, then submit. Approval usually arrives within 24 hours, so apply at least 3โ4 days before your flight. Carry a printout of the approved ETA along with your passport (valid for at least 6 months), a return ticket, hotel booking, and proof of funds. Avoid look-alike agent sites that charge extra service fees, and check the official site for the latest rules before you travel.
